We absolutely love this coffee. It’s classy and very drinkable. The first thing that hits you is the sweetness. It has lots and lots of sugary notes up front including honeycomb and caramel. The next thing you notice is its chewy texture. It reminds us of raisins and hazelnut praline. This is a beautiful coffee either as a filter or as an espresso, with or without milk. As an espresso it’s really sweet and has dark chocolate and cherry notes and the sweetness carries through well with milk. There’s quite a lot to discover with this coffee, but it’s all very approachable and definitely a classic.
FILTER ROAST: The honeycomb note dominates the filter roast with a chewy and sugary texture
ESPRESSO ROAST: As an espresso the sweetness carries through with milk and has dark chocolate and cherry notes

Peru isn’t a region we’ve bought a lot of coffee from in the past, mainly because their quality can be a bit patchy. Don’t get us wrong, we’ve cupped some fantastic coffees from Peru, but they tend to be few and far between. That’s why we’re so excited about this one.
We source this coffee through a green coffee importer we use quite a lot called Falcon Specialty. They are taking great strides in Peru to improve quality and prices to farmers. In the past they have encountered difficulties ensuring the premiums they had been paying for quality make it back to the farmer. That’s why they decided to start working with farmers directly, as opposed to using middle-men who take a margin and drive prices down. Low prices mean low incentives to improve quality and the farmers who are worst impacted are those who don’t belong to a cooperative or organisation. These make up 75% of all coffee producers in this region of Peru who are the focus of Falcon’s initiative.
