The Curious | Ethiopia Odako Daye Bensa

The Curious | Ethiopia Odako Daye Bensa

Beans & Ground 200g

Holy moly this coffee is amazing! Do we need to say anything else? I guess you’d find it helpful, right? We come across a lot of natural Ethiopians and nobody really gets all that excited about most of them. This is the exception.

We don’t think we’ve ever written down as many flavour notes as we did when tasting this coffee. We’re almost embarrassed to list them all because we don’t think you’ll take us seriously. Here it goes anyway: blueberry, strawberry, tropical fruits (especially mango), hibiscus, Earl Grey tea, lemon, hoppy IPA, peach, honeysuckle and Flash All Purpose. Just being honest. It’s still quite a delicate coffee and has the quintessential Ethiopian tea-like body, but it’s super delicious and complex.

FILTER ROAST: The filter roast is an absolute flavour bomb, with so much going on in the cup (we won’t list all the flavours again).

ESPRESSO ROAST: Apricot jam and florals. Makes a light bodied espresso which works really well at a 1:2.5 brew ratio.

About This Coffee

Let’s explain a bit about where this coffee comes from. It’s a bit confusing, so bear with us. This coffee is produced by several hundred smallholder farmers in a village called Shantawene which is in a district called Bensa. “Daye Bensa” is a cooperative which the farmers belong to who do all kinds of great things for their members like social improvement initiatives, investing in education and reforestation programmes. This micro-lot takes its name from the Odako tree, under which the inhabitants of the village of Shantawene traditionally used to gather to discuss matters to be resolved by the community. How romantic.

It’s Ok with milk, but it will kill the character a bit.
