The Curious | Sumatra Asman Arianto 1kg

Espresso Beans 1kg

This coffee tastes like nothing else. It has a character that’s entirely unique and it’s a bit bonkers. If you’re wondering why, just take a look at the varieties that make up this coffee. We’ve been around the block a few times, but even we aren’t familiar with these varieties.

In the cup, expect ripe plum, booze and dark chocolate notes with Asman’s signature melon liqueur note shining through. Only problem is it really sucks with milk. This is definitely only for the black coffee drinkers.

About This Coffee

Aaah Asman Arianto. What a guy. We bought his coffee last year and we were totally blown away by it. Asman is a dude. He loves growing coffee, and motocross. He also set up his own cooperative to help fellow farmers achieve better prices and quality. Like we said, what a guy. Check him out on Instagram to see what we mean.

Sumatran coffees have a bit of a bad reputation in the speciality game. Most coffee in Sumatra is processed in a very traditional way called “Giling Basah”, or wet-hulled. This processing method can make the coffee taste a bit earthy and weird, but what’s really exciting is people like Asman are breaking the mould. He is one of only a few producers experimenting with other processing methods. This year Asman produced a washed, honey and natural (this being the natural), and the results are delightful.
