What’s your favourite Wine Gum and why is it the purple one?
This coffee is like chewing on a full pack of them – if that doesn’t make you want to brew up a big mug, wait until you hear the rest of the tasting notes.
Grown in Burundi, Africa, this lot comes from smallholder farmers who deliver cherries to Migoti Washing Station – perched at 2040m and processing coffee for over 1,500 producers. Migoti provides training on selective picking, pruning and fertilising, along with access to seedlings and agronomist support. Farmers are paid above market rate based on cherry quality, and many now earn enough to reinvest in their farms or send their children to school. That shouldn’t be groundbreaking – but it’s the kind of change that matters if we want to help make it the norm.
We sourced it through Omwani Coffee, our long-time import partners in East Africa. They focus on direct relationships and true traceability – connecting us with producers who are doing things properly, not just growing great coffee but building long-term impact in their communities.
Let’s get back to what it tastes like. Purple Wine Gums are a given, but what follows is equally delightful. It’s super creamy, sweet with a stone fruit character. There’s a chocolate ganache mouthfeel on the finish, giving it oodles of body. With milk, it’s full-on blackberry ripple ice cream.
